IPL 2021: Axar Patel tested Positive After Nitish Rana

India's all-rounder Axar Patel on Saturday tested positive for coronavirus. It is the second major blow to the Delhi Capitals ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021), first one is their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer who was ruled out due to a shoulder injury.

Delhi Capitals, in a statement, have confirmed that Axar Patel has tested positive for COVID-19: "He had checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on March 28 with a negative report. His report from the 2nd COVID test came positive. He is in isolation at a designated medical care facility."

Notably, Axar is the second IPL player after Kolkata Knight Riders' Nitish Rana who has tested coronavirus positive. As per the norms laid down by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), a player who tests coronavirus positive "must isolate in the designated area outside the bio-secure environment for a minimum of 10 days from the first day of symptoms or the date of collection of the sample which resulted in a positive RT-PCR report, whichever is earlier".

Axar was in the middle of his mandatory quarantine period before testing positive and will be in isolation now for a minimum of 10 days.

Notably, Axar enjoyed a memorable Test debut against England picking 27 wickets in three Tests. He also played in a solitary T20I of the five-match series against the same team before leaving the bubble ahead of the ODI series.

Delhi Capitals will be playing their first game of the IPL 2021 season on April 10 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer is already ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury. Rishabh Pant has been named the skipper of the team for this season.
