Our Very Own Rushikonda Beach is set to be Included in BEAMS(Beach Environment and Aesthetics Management Services) Project. The Beams project is aimed at maintaining the pristine coastal environment and developing environment-friendly and sustainable tourist amenities in beaches in coastal parts of the country.
Rushikonda Beach is one of the 13 Beaches identified by the Government for the BEAMS project under Pilot Basis.
These beaches will have infrastructure, facilities, and amenities for tourists such as bio-toilets, parking facilities, play zones for children, fitness equipment and purified drinking water. A water treatment plant, a solid waste treatment plant, as well as a solar power plant, will be part of the Beams infrastructure.
Prakash Javadekar, Union minister for environment, forest, and climate change informed in the Rajya Sabha that the Beams project will also include CCTV surveillance and guards to ensure security. The Union minister was responding to a query raised by YSRCP MP Vijay Sai Reddy.
The Union Minister further said that the project will include infrastructure for differently-abled visitors with provisions of amphibious wheelchairs. Most facilities will be made of eco-friendly material, he added.
According to the Union environment minister, the government has decided to extend these facilities to 100 beaches around the country in the course of five years. The Union ministry is also taking up a beach sustainability assessment survey in collaboration with the state government.
