Tirupati's Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district has decided to suspend the issuance of free darshan tokens to devotees under the current booking mode from April 12 due to a steep rise in Covid-19 cases across the country.
In a press release, TTD stated that the issuance of Sarva darshan tokens at the current booking counters in Tirupati will be suspended from April 12 and tokens will be issued at these designated counters only till April 11 evening.
"There is a spurt in Covid-19 cases reported in Tirupati city again. Since thousands of devotees have to wait at Bhudevi complex and Vishnu Nivasam complex for time slot tokens, there is a high risk of Covid-19 cases to further go up," TTD officials stated.
In order to reduce the crowdedness at booking centers and other places which leads to high chances of covid virus spread, TTD has decided to suspend the issuance of free darshan tokens.
Pointing out that the Shirdi temple in Maharashtra had already suspended darshan once again due to a spurt in Covid-19 cases, TTD has taken a precautionary decision.
